CBT Motorcycle Course For Novice Riders

Compulsory basic training (CBT)

CBT is the first course that any beginner rider should attend. It typically takes a full day to complete. If you achieve an acceptable level by the end of the course your instructor will issue you the DL196 certificate of successful completion.

In this course, students will learn to operate the motorcycle. You will be supervised by an experienced instructor throughout the day. You will also be given a short theoretical session to help you understand the road code, the rules of the road and safe way of lane positioning. You'll learn how to check and maintain your bike, and how to carry a pillion (if applicable).

The second part of the CBT is a practical on-site riding. Your instructor will create an area that is safe in which you can practice your abilities. You will begin slowly and work through basic safety checks before moving on to stop the motorcycle and braking properly. During this time, your trainer will be in radio contact with you and assist until they are confident that you can perform these exercises safely. level.

This portion of the course introduces you to the different types and kinds of traffic and roads. You'll learn to safely navigate roundabouts, traffic lights and one-way streets. You'll also learn the basics of cornering and how to execute figures of 8 and emergency stop.

This is the final part of the CBT. Your instructor will take you on different routes. You'll be in constant radio contact with your instructor, who will keep track of your progress throughout the course. If you're able to prove your ability to drive a motorcycle in traffic and cope with different road conditions, then you will be awarded the CBT DL196 certificate.

Module 1 Theory Test

The first step to obtaining an A1 license is passing your motorcycle test in the theory section. After successfully completing Module 1 You will then move on to the Module 2 test which is conducted on the road. The examiner will lead you on a short route around the local area, with about 35 minutes of your own riding to complete. The examiner is testing your ability of multitasking while following road signs and will require to see you demonstrate excellent driving skills.

After successfully passing both your Module 1 and Module 2 after which you'll be able to have the freedom of an A1 light licence. This will allow for you to use bikes up to 125cc without the need for an instructor's license. You will also no longer be required to display your L plates. A1 licenses also permit you to ride with a companion and you don't have to go through the CBT every two years. This is an excellent option for those who wish to enjoy the thrill of motorcycling. The next step from an A1 license is the A license that is unrestricted and requires a full driving licence.

Module 2: Practical Test

Once you've completed Module 1 and your theory test, you can take the practical part of your motorcycle licence - Module 2. This test will grant you an A1 license that permits you to ride a bike up to 125cc with the power of 11 BHP. You can also travel on motorways and carry passengers.

The Mod 2 test is a test of riding skills that includes approximately 10 minutes of free riding. During this time, the examiner will follow you on a predetermined route that will vary based on traffic and road conditions. The route will include busy intersections, roundabouts and dual carriageways, so you'll need to be able to ride in diverse conditions.

Licensing

This course is intended for those who have completed Module 1 and 2 and want to improve their riding skills and develop a bond with their bike. It usually involves more advanced exercises & training such as observing your turns and leaning to control your bike at higher speeds. It also covers hazard avoidance and high speed cornering, as well brakes and stopping at high speeds. This is a great option for riders who are unsure whether the full license is what they really would like. The BRC is an intensive 5-day course designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a licensed motorcycle rider in Tennessee. The BRC is a course of five days that teaches the knowledge and experience you require to become a licensed motorcyclist in Tennessee.

You must be at least 16 years old age to participate in the Basic RiderCourse (BRC). If you are younger than 18 years old, you will require your parent or guardian to sign the Covid Release and Waiver of Indemnification form (click here) along with the Motorcycle Safety Program Parent/Guardian Agreement. Your parent or guardian will also have to sign the MSF ecourse before attending your BRC course.
